Ka’ahumanu Avenue Community Corridor TOD Plan

Kahului, HI | 2022

The Ka’ahumanu Avenue corridor stretches 3 miles from the walkable and historic downtown of Wailuku Town in the west to the auto-oriented more recent development of Kahului in the east. To address pedestrian safety and community vitality in this corridor, the County of Maui is planning major bicycle, pedestrian, and transit improvements. Cascadia’s role on the project was to analyze the transit-readiness of select nodes within the corridor, assess their market positioning, and identify barriers to TOD. The project resulted in actionable recommendations that resulted in a re-prioritization of the County’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to better serve future development in the corridor.
