Guide to Health & Housing Partnerships for Colorado
State of Colorado | 2023
Colorado, like the rest of the West, is seeing rapidly escalating housing costs. Hospitals are at the frontline of this cost crunch: high housing costs are impacting the health of patients and limiting their ability to recruit and retain doctors, nurses, and other staff. Hospitals and health providers are not housing developers but they have one thing housing developers need: land in central locations across the state. Partnerships between health care providers and affordable housing developers offers a unique opportunity to pair experts in development and finance with large landowners who need housing.
Cascadia Partners was hired to develop a statewide Guide to Health & Housing Partnerships for the Colorado Housing and Finance Agency (CHFA). The Guide is a resource to state leaders, hospital administrators, and affordable housing developers - and a blueprint for future partnership that can generate desperately needed housing all across the state, in both rural and urban communities. Following this work, Cascadia had the opportunity to work with NW Colorado Health on a site-specific housing development plan for their campus in Hayden Colorado.
